ViiV HEALTHCARE MAKES NEW £9.75 MILLION INVESTMENT TO ACCELERATE HIV RESPONSE FOR PAEDIATRIC AND ADOLESCENT POPULATION

The Paediatric Breakthrough Partnership brings together Aidsfonds, Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF), Paediatric - Adolescent Treatment Africa (PATA) and UNICEF, with ViiV Healthcare Positive Action as funder and coordinator, to improve paediatric and adolescent HIV outcomes through coordinated health facility, community, healthcare provider-capacity and advocacy approaches. In the implementing countries, these partners work alongside national ministries of health and local community organisations to make sure HIV services reach the children, adolescents and families who need them most.

Our £9.75 million commitment marks an important next step in the journey towards community health system strengthening and linkage to care, and local ownership and leadership. We aim to support long term sustainability and ensure that as we move towards integration, children are not left behind.”

In this next phase, our focus is on taking what has worked — from peer support and community follow-up with quality improvement support, mentorship and training at targeted clinics — and embedding these approaches into routine health services and strengthen a district wide quality improvement strategies and the integration of peer-led, community-led approaches that can continue beyond programme funding.”

At a time when global health funding is under increasing pressure, ViiV Healthcare is reinforcing its commitment to locally led HIV responses that can sustain impact beyond external funding cycles. This paediatric and adolescent investment follows ViiV Healthcare’s recent announcement of more than $33 million in US grants awarded in 2026. As the only company solely focused on HIV, ViiV Healthcare works across scientific advances in HIV treatment and prevention, access partnerships and deep-rooted community engagement to support better health outcomes for people living with HIV and those who could benefit from PrEP.

Since 2020, the Breakthrough Partnership has supported more than 200 health facilities, enabled over 805,000 mothers, children and adolescents to access HIV testing, and trained more than 4,100 healthcare providers.⁴ These achievements have strengthened the foundation for more integrated, locally led HIV responses across implementing countries.

Building on this progress, the third phase will focus on embedding proven approaches within national and sub-national health systems. It will prioritise integrating HIV services into primary healthcare, maternal and child health, and adolescent health services, helping to ensure that HIV testing and treatment become part of routine care. The partnership will support community and district health teams to improve data use, strengthen quality improvement and build local accountability, enabling countries to sustain progress independently.
