FOCUS ON WELLBEING
WITH POZQOL

HRQoL is an increasingly important aspect of holistic care for people living with HIV.[1,2] Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) provide a patient-centred approach to quantifying responses to care.[2]

Australian community and healthcare services previously expressed a need for a validated tool to reliably measure health-related quality of life among people living with HIV, to determine the impact of interventions and inform healthcare decisions.[3] The PozQol Scale was designed as a short, easy-to-use tool to help address this need.[3]

The PozQoL Scale is a validated tool for people living with HIV, developed in Australia for day-to-day use in health and community services.[3,4]

PozQoL Digital Tool

We wanted to increase accessibility and ease-of-use for healthcare providers and people living with HIV who want to use PozQoL to help measure quality of life. That’s why we developed the PozQoL Digital Tool, an online version of the PozQoL Scale that can be accessed anywhere and provides a succinct output of results for you to use.

PozQoL domains of wellbeing[3,4]

PozQoL incorporates 13 items across four key domains of wellbeing to produce an overall measure of health-related quality of life.[3,4]

Psychological:

Including mood, coping, hope and fear of the future, and self-worth

Social:

Including personal and social life, belonging, support, and social stigma

Health concerns:

Including perception of one’s health, health-related concerns, energy, and HIV management

Functional:

Including the ability to live a “normal” life, independence, meaningful occupation, and satisfactory standard of living

Patient Reported Outcomes (PROs)

PozQoL provides measures for overall health-related quality of life and for each domain of wellbeing, which may be repeated over time to observe for changes in health-related quality of life.[35]

The PozQoL Scale is now available as a digital tool making it quick and simple to use before or during consultations.

After your patients' first experience with the PozQoL Scale, and after discussing their results, you might like to provide them with a copy of the Next Steps card. This card contains links to community organisations and information about what their PozQoL score means.
